We pressed our toes into the sand and felt the warmth of the sunlit water rush to enclose our feet in a welcome embrace.
The waves were so gentle, just stretching themselves along the shore like a cat luxuriating in a strip of sunlight.
The sky leaked silver into the water.
My heart was full.
Today, we went to the beach for the first time since March. Before the virus we would go every week, sometimes every day of the week.
The sea has been summoning me. I could hear her on the wind. The leaf-littered air around me would suddenly switch to salt and my soul would jump and knock me off balance.
When we reached the top of the hill and I saw the silver water, my heart felt so full I thought it might burst. Tonight, we are sandy, salty and satisfied.
I believe we will sleep well.
And dream of oceans.
