A short distance from our new house, there is a four hour trail through the trees.
Filled with NZ native plants, ferns and fungi, it feels like stepping out of this world and into some prehistoric jungle – but with footpaths.
We always visit at the winter solstice, bringing gingerbread and hot chocolate for a winter picnic beneath the evergreens, but it is so exciting to know that now we can walk beneath the canopy every single day.
You might think it would get old.
It is dazzlingly beautiful; it will never get old.
(Also, happy coincidence that Faye was wearing her fungi bloomers and I finally got a photo of her that wasn’t a blur. You can find out more about her bloomers, Aggie the toadstool elf that inspired them, and so much more, if you follow me on Instagram @eight_turns_to_winter. I would love to have you come visit x).
